Monaco takes measures to prevent the spread of bird flu
The Government of Monaco recently alerted its people to the practices to follow to avoid contributing to the spread of bird flu. First of all, you should not touch wild birds especially if they are dead. If you find a dead bird, you should immediately call the Fire Brigade of Monaco (18). They are trained to intervene in such conditions. If you mistakenly touch a dead bird you should not touch your face or other persons. You should immediately wash your hands carefully with soap and water. The government also strongly discourages feeding wild birds. In addition people who keep birds at home, must inform the Food and Sanitarian Security Department of Monaco.
Monaco has many beautiful parks that ducks and geese use freely. Whenever possible, these birds have been transferred to the Animal Garden of Monaco where they are supervised. The government is also trying to supervise any other migratory birds that make use of Monaco’s parks. Park staff must pay a particular attention to any bird particularly that behaves unusually or appears ill.
These are just some of the measures the Principality is taking to demonstrate its commitment to serious measures to avoid the unnecessary spread of bird flu.
