The Commission de Contrôle des Informations Nominatives of the Principality of Monaco has organized last week the first meeting gathering the independent French-speaking authorities charged to ensuring in their respective countries the personal data protection. This meeting brought together the representatives of 15 States, in the objective to promote the development of the data protection within the French-speaking countries, in particular with the creation of a structure allowing the co-operation between authorities of the five continents.

The Centre of gerontological co-ordination of Monaco, destined for the over 65s living in the Principality opened its doors on Monday 4th September. Its main purpose is to establish an assistance plan for the elderly, based on a medical social assessment, by co-ordinating action between the actors on the ground, without overriding them or the city services already set up. Another nine months for Maher

Ted Maher, the American nurse who set fire to a waste paper bin in the apartment of his boss, the billionaire Edmond Safra, inadvertenly causing his death, has been given an extra nine months for escaping from Monaco jail in January 2003.

Hobbs-Melville case

The Court in Moanco has handed down sentences in the Hobbs-Melville fraud trial. William Fogwell and his daughter Shelley, along with three employees of the Hobbs-Melville brokerage firm were accused of de-frauding some 500 clients of up to euros 140 millions from 1993 to 2000. (more…)

Back to school in the Principality
