The A.P.E.M. donates 55,000 euros to Special Olympics Monaco

The Parents’ Association of Monaco handed over a cheque for 55,000 euros to Special Olympics Monaco Association on Friday 5th January. The money was raised at the A.P.E.M.’s annual Gala evening on 24th November in the Salle Empire of the Hotel de Paris. Thanks to the participants at the dinner and to various sponsors, the funds raised will enable the Special Olympics Monaco Delegation to go to Shanghai next October. 

One of two weeklies in the Principality bows to pressure

L’Observateur de Monaco, one of two weekly magazines in the Principality, is to become a monthly, just 13 months since its launch in November 2005. Patrice Pastor, a member of one of Monaco’s most important families, is a shareholder and is said to believe that there is not room for two. Its rival is the longer-established Monaco-Hebdo.

Most important and the most prestigious event in the world of the circus is without dispute the International Festival of the Circus of Monte Carlo. Since its creation by H.S.H. the Prince Rainier III in 1974, this demonstration - chaired by H.S.H. the Princess Stéphanie  - presents each year the best international spectacles and rewards the artists more deserving by famous Gold Clown, Silver Clown and Bronze Clown. By the way, the traditional friendly football match opposing the Barbagiuans team of H.S.H. Albert II to the international team of artists of the circus will be played Monday January 22 at the Stadium of Cap d’ Ail.

No Eurovision for Monaco

After three years of dubious results the Principality opts out. Three years after returning to the annual Eurovision song contest, the Principality of Monaco has decided not to enter Eurovision 2007. Much had rested on last year’s entrant, the French singer Séverine Ferrer performing “Coco dance”, but she didn’t even make it to the semi-finals. In 2005, Lise Darly came 24th in the semi-final and the 2004 entrant did not fare well either. Monaco had not participated since 1980.

The government of Monaco has laid out its plans for the future concerning two districts in the Principality. Saint Roman is a narrow residential strip extending from the eastern border with France to the Ténao stairs (escalier), and south to include the Monte-Carlo Sun skycraper and a park. (more…)

Traffic in Monaco Ville

In order to make entering Monaco-Ville easier and to improve traffic conditions in place de la Visitation, the Government has decided to adopt the following measures to reduce traffic build-up significantly at certain times of the day :P ublic transport should be used whenever possible : Monaco-Ville is served by two regular bus services. Special buses also run during school periods for pupils. (more…)

Nominations to the Princely Palate

Georges Lisimachio has been nominated chief of H.S.H. Prince Albert II cabinet; Christiane Stahl has joined the Cabinet near  Laurent Anselmi and Jean Castellini, Advisors of the Cabinet; whereas Patrick Sommer is nominated technical counselor to the H.S.H. Prince Albert II cabinet. Those nominations have been effective by January 1, 2007.

Five groupings of the world BTP were retained to undertake works. They will have to present their respective project before next October. But only one prize winner will be retained by the Sovereign. This urbanization, of a cost evaluated between 5 and 10 billion euros, should be spread out over ten years.

During the 65th Grand Prix of Monaco, which be held form Thursday, May 24th to Sunday 27, 2007, the traders could occupy the public road outside the limit of the circuit. Tariffs have been fixed and the candidatures should be deposit to the Mayor house before mid-March.  Â
