H.E. Mr. Mohamed Jaham AL Kuwari, Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar hands over his letters of credence to the Principality of Monaco.

As we briefly reported in our recent edition, in the early morning on Tuesday 13th February 2007 in the Prince’s Palace, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Jaham AL Kuwari, Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar handed over his letters of credence to the Principality of Monaco. More... After being welcomed to the Royal Courtyard by the Carabinieri guard of honor under the orders of Lieutenant-Colonel Morandon, Commander of the Company of the Prince’s Carabinieri, Ambassador Al Kuwari was taken to the Hall of Mirrors by Colonel Luc Fringant, H.S.H. the Prince’s Chamberlain. H.E. Mr. Mohamed Jaham Al Kuwari then handed over his letters of credence to H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, who was accompanied by Mr. René Novella, Secretary of State, Mr. Henri Fissore, Government Counselor for external relations, and Mr. Georges Lisimachio, Head of H.S.H. the Prince’s Cabinet. Following the ceremony, H.S.H. the Prince received the Ambassador in the Family Drawing Room for a private audience. Qatar thus becomes the twelfth foreign power accredited to Monaco. With a population of 700,000 inhabitants, the economic wealth of this country derives from its reserves of natural gas (third after Russia and Iran). It boasts one of the highest incomes per capita in the world (GDP/inhabitant 58,000 dollars in 2005). For several years now, the country has been involved in a policy of economic openness in the region. In 2001, it hosted the WTO ministerial meeting. Within the sphere of sports, the State of Qatar is highly active. Every year, the country hosts various sporting events such as the Doha Open and the Fifteenth Asian Games (December 2006), the third most important sporting event after the World Cup and the Olympic Games.
