Masters Series Monte-Carlo
The annual Masters Series Monte-Carlo tennis tournament kicks off this Saturday, April 14th in the prestigious tennis club at the Monte-Carlo Country Club. The world famous competition traditionally kicks off the European tennis season.
This year marks the 101st edition of the competition. Qualifying trials begin on Saturday at 11am. The draw for the matches will take place at midday in the VIP village. A big change this year is that the matches for the final of both singles and doubles will start on Sunday April 15th and not the usual Monday. Forty-five world class players are automatically admitted to the competition based on their world classification, which is determined six weeks before the competition. The other players and the four invited “wild cards” will bring the total number of players to 56 compared to 64 in previous years. The singles final will take place Sunday, April 22nd at 2.30pm and will be the best of three sets, instead of the traditional five sets. Prince Albert will present the prizes to the winners. Over two million Euros in prizes are sponsored by Rolex.
