H.E. Mr Kostiantyn Tymoshenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Principality of Monaco hands over his letters of credence.

In the late morning of Friday 4th April in the Prince’s Palace, the ceremony took place in which H.E. Mr Kostiantyn Tymoshenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine handed over his letters of credence.

After being welcomed to the Royal Courtyard of the Palace by the Company of Carabinieri guard of honour under the orders of Colonel Yannick Bersihand, Senior Commander of the Police Force, Ambassador Kostiantyn Tymoshenko was taken to the Hall of Mirrors by Colonel Luc Fringant, H.S.H. the Prince’s Chamberlain.
H.E. Mr Kostiantyn Tymoshenko then handed over his letters of credence to H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, who was accompanied by Mr René Novella, Secretary of State, Mr Georges Lisimachio, Head of H.S.H. the Prince’s Cabinet and H.E. Mr Jean Pastorelli, Minister plenipotentiary and Government Counsellor for External Relations. Following the Ceremony, H.S.H. the Prince held a private audience with the Ambassador in the Family Drawing Room.

Ukraine thus becomes the thirty-eighth foreign power accredited to the Principality of Monaco. Consular relations have existed between the two countries since 2001.

Since 1997, Ukraine has acceded to international charters for the protection of the environment and has adopted its own framework laws which have enabled the main areas needing safeguarding to be defined in the field (“Conception of biological diversity protection of Ukraine”). The country also ratified the Kyoto protocol in 2004.

As far as the fight against AIDS is concerned, it is the only State in Eastern Europe to have voted for a law which defends the rights of HIV-positive individuals by guaranteeing the confidentiality of medical data.
