H.E. Mr Marc Lortie, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to the Principality of Monaco hands over his letters of credence

In the late morning of Thursday 10th April in the Prince’s Palace, the official ceremony took place in which H.E. Mr Marc Lortie, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada handed over his letters of credence to the Principality of Monaco.

H.E. Mr Marc Lortie was accompanied for the occasion by Ms Sandelle Scrimshaw, Honorary Consul of Canada in Monaco. After being welcomed to the Royal Courtyard of the Palace by the Company of Carabinieri guard of honour under the orders of Colonel Yannick Bersihand, Senior Commander of the Police Force, Ambassador Marc Lortie was taken to the Hall of Mirrors by Colonel Luc Fringant, H.S.H. the Prince’s Chamberlain. H.E. Mr Marc Lortie then handed over his letters of credence to H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, who was accompanied by Mr René Novella, Secretary of State, Mr Georges Lisimachio, Head of H.S.H. the Prince’s Cabinet and H.E. Mr Jean Pastorelli, Minister plenipotentiary and Government Counsellor for External Relations. Following the ceremony, H.S.H. the Prince held a private audience with the Ambassador in the Family Drawing Room.

Canada thus becomes the fourtieth foreign power accredited to the Principality of Monaco.

Like the Principality, Canada has pledged to cut radically greenhouse gases and atmospheric pollution.

In December 2007, the Canadian government formally requested industry to furnish information concerning their pollutant emissions. On 10th March 2008, following extensive consultations with industry, the provinces and envrionmental groups, the government presented a plan to establish a balance between environmental protection and economic growth.

In January 2005, the Canadian government launched a federal initiative to combat HIV/AIDS and in 2007, the Canadian Minister for International Cooperation and the Minister of Francophonie and official languages announced that Canada was to give 120 million dollars in support of projects to combat HIV/ AIDS.
