AÂ trio of Kenyans led by Geoffrey Mutai dominated the 11th Monaco and the Riviera Marathon yesterday. A superb performance by Mutai saw him complete the 42.195 km course in 2 hours 12 minutes and 40 seconds. The fastest time set for a marathon is 2 hours 4 minutes and 26 seconds by Haile Gebrselassie in Berlin last year. (more…)

Since its creation in 1997, the Marathon of Monaco gathers hundreds of runners in the Principality. There are 48 nationalities represented, this is a global success. It is already time to think to the famous and so expected annual Grand Prix of Monaco. These days the Department of Urban Planning starts the first preparations on the boulevard Larvotto, boulevard Albert 1er and the south harbour. As a consequence, these preparations would somehow disturb the traffic and will caused the closing of some areas. So, we will have to pay all attention to the indicated diversions and maybe to choose to use the bus to avoid traffic jams.

Prince Albert II of Monaco, also a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), visited the Beijing Olympic venue construction sites yesterday. The Prince said he was deeply impressed by the national stadium known as the “bird’s nest”, which is due to be completed next March. He also visited the “water cube”, or the National Aquatic Center, another landmark among the Olympic venues to be completed this October. “China has already contributed a lot to the Olympic movement. I hope this will be not only a very successful games but the one that embodies the spirit,” he said. He said that he would return to Beijing with high expectations for the opening ceremony on August 8 next year. Also the vice president of the IOC Athletes Commission, he praised the planned accommodation for the Olympic athletes after visiting a sample apartment in the Olympic village. Prince Albert II arrived in Beijing on Tuesday afternoon for a four-day state visit. This is his first visit to China after taking office on July 12, 2005.
