Meeting of the FIA in Monaco: Formula One changes its rules

The persons in charge for the FIA met in Monaco on last December 8th to determine new regulatory measurements for the five next years, aiming at bringing the car industry closer to the world of Formula 1. At the time of the ceremony of the rewards of the FIA, homage was paid to Michael Schumacher for his career: he received a gold medal designed especially for this occasion.

F1 legend Moss honored by the FIA in Monte-Carlo

Sir Stirling Moss, probably the greatest driver never to be Formula One world champion, was honored by the sport’s governing body on Friday in Monte-Carlo. The International Automobile Federation (FIA) said in a statement that the 77-year-old Briton had been presented with the FIA gold medal for motor sport at the end-of-year gala awards in Monaco. Cheresek wins Marathon of Monaco

The Kenyan Wilfried Cheresek romped to victory in the 10th Marathon of Monaco and the Rivieras, beating the Russian Andrei Brygalov by a mere 29 seconds. Third, fourth and fifth places were all taken by Kenyans – Jacob Kitur, Simon Ripis and W Mnangat Pius. (more…)

Prince Albert II wooed in world athletics bid

HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco has been invited to Queensland in an attempt to secure a top athletics competition for the state. Premier Peter Beattie, on a 12-day trade mission to Europe and the Middle East, is in Monaco to support Queensland’s bid for the 2011 World Athletics Championships. (more…)

10th trans borders Marathon of Monaco and the Riviera

On Sunday 12th November, the Marathon of Monaco and the Riviera will be celebrating its tenth anniversary. The departure is scheduled for 9.30 a.m. at the top of the gardens of the Monte Carlo Casino. Some 2000 runners are expected at the starting line including the holder of the title, Kenyan Cheruiyot Kibet (2 hours 11 mn and 26 seconds). The event, organized by the Monegasque Athletics Federation, is one of the few to cross through three countries (Monaco, France, and Italy).

The 10 km of Monte Carlo

This event is organized on the same day, exclusively on the territory of the Principality. The departure is scheduled for 10.15 a.m. straight after the marathon. “This event is meeting with increasing success, especially with those accompanying the marathon runners (family, friends…)”, explains Didier Boinon who is in charge of the marathon within the Monegasque Athletics Federation. Today, the 10km event attracts about 1500 runners, compared to 600 in 2003, the year of its launch. 

Principality association promotes sport for the mentally handicapped

Soroptimist is a Monegasque fund-raising company providing support to handicapped people in their everyday lives. It has organized a dinner in Monaco tomorrow night (26th October) at the Hôtel Hermitage in aid of the Special Olympics. (more…)

Success of the Sportel Monaco Forum

With a very significant participation of the sportsmen and professionals of the diffusion of the sport (television and new media), came from the whole world in Monaco for this single forum which is in particular dedicated to them - as the figures show it, largely higher than those of 2005: 2115 attendees in the market, 931 exhibitors, 12 conferences with 485 attendees, 195 accredited journalists this year. Tuesday evening, at the time of the ceremony of the Gold Podiums George Bertellotti, the rewards were decreed in the presence of H.S.H the Sovereign Prince Albert II.

Monaco coach is relieved of duties

Inter-army sports and water raid

The Principality of Monaco will be hosting the “A Vos Marck”, a five-day event created by Gilles Bellec from the company G18. Army General Gérard Desjardins will be the military consultant. More...The raid, which is taking on a European dimension this year, groups together twelve mixed teams from French, German and Dutch civil and military defense units. A Monegasque team will also be taking part. Highly technical events, which will be spread over three days, are in store for the participants, who will leave from Monaco and move along the Mediterranean coast, where they will be involved in GPS orientation programmes at sea. The latter will follow compulsory and complex itineraries monitored from the raid PC via a satellite system and will also involve endurance navigation. The raid will also consist of physical tests: team kayak canoeing along the beaches of Monaco, as well as an urban semi-marathon along the roads of the Principality. Competitors will be split into mixed teams of 4 and will be competing against each other under the management and surveillance of Hubert Auriol, the car and motorbike driver and triple winner of the Paris Dakar Rally. Press conferences are being organized every morning from Thursday 5th to Saturday 7th October in the Monaco Yacht Club. On Friday 6th October, members of the press will have the opportunity of following participants at sea aboard a boat specially reserved for them
